Thank yourself.
Think about it. How often do you thank yourself? Never? It doesn’t quite fit with the bootstrap society we live in, does it?
Appreciation though, isn’t just for others. There are so many articles and postings about gratitude Few of them, however, suggest you start with yourself.
We know it’s almost impossible to give when we are depleted. There is nothing left but exhaustion.
An antidote for depletion is getting quiet, giving ourselves time and space to think and remember the good things that we actually are capable of. Now, get still, give your presence to this moment and consider how far you have already come on your journey..
Regardless of your situation, you probably have much to appreciate about yourself. It’s hard to find though, when you’re not used to doing this, isn’t it? Start with the small stuff. It’s easier that way.
Make a list of 10 things you did this week ranging from good deeds, to trying something new, to helping someone out -you get the drift. Pay attention to the smallest thing – smiling, saying hello to a stranger, etc. You do not need to judge the worthiness of the act. Just notice it.
Once you start, go a little deeper, take a look at this year so far. What are you most proud of? What do you still want to learn? If you value your own self-development and growth, I’m putting my money on the fact that you will create a list that may wow even you.
